Job Responsibilities:

HED is growing its Technology Design Team. We are adding a Senior Technology Designer to support our west coast offices as well as firmwide initiatives. This position will ideally be based in our downtown Los Angeles office location. The Senior Technology Designer will be responsible for taking the lead on designing technology systems, managing design technology projects during construction, and supporting our Studio Leaders proposals and project pursuits.

This position will develop designs that meet client functional, budgetary and schedule requirements. This includes designs for structured cabling, public address/intercom, classroom video and sound reinforcement, digital signage, access control/intrusion detection, audio video control systems, video surveillance, and other technology systems.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design of data and communications, safety and security, and audio-visual systems
  • Lead project activities from inception through completion
  • Coordinate efforts with Studio Leaders, project partners and clients
  • Observe BICSI, AVIXA and ASIS standards and implement industry best practices in design and product utilization
  • Work with firm leaders in the development of design and cost proposals
  • Support public bidding process for projects and assist in review of project cost estimates
  • Coordinate with manufactures and vendors on emerging and existing products

Job Qualifications:


  • Work with firm leaders in the development of design and cost proposals
  • Support public bidding process for projects and assist in review of project cost estimates
  • Coordinate with manufactures and vendors on emerging and existing products
  • BICSI Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) or AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist Design (CTS-D) designation preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA, EIA/TIA BICSI, IEEE, ASIS, and AVIXA standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CSI format specifications
  • Ability to work remotely and communicate efficiently across geographies with multiple project teams
  • Experience with client interviews and technical presentations
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit, sufficient to read and review drawings
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to collaborate, achieve consensus, and provide guidance
